Dr. Katie Thomson Aitken

I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all healthcare.

Your symptoms do not happen in isolation. Mental health, sleep, hormones, nutrition, movement, stress, neurodivergence, and physical symptoms can all influence one another.

My job is to help make sense of the whole picture, identify the places where change is most likely to help, and build a plan that is realistic for your life.

I believe good care should be evidence-informed, collaborative, and practical. You should understand why each recommendation is being made, and your treatment plan should support you (not become another source of stress.)

Meet Dr. Katie

Healthcare should make sense for your brain AND your life.

I’m Dr. Katie Thomson Aitken, a naturopathic doctor and author who’s been helping folks manage their brain (and their mood) for the past 12+ years.

My work focuses on the places where mental and physical health overlap: anxiety, neurodivergence, migraine, concussion recovery, sleep, hormones, energy, and nervous-system health.

I help people make sense of the whole picture and build practical, evidence-informed care that supports their health (without becoming another overwhelming thing to manage.)

Why this work matters to me

Over the years, I kept seeing the same pattern: people were being given advice that made sense on paper, but didn’t always make sense for their nervous system, their brain, or the realities of their life. They thought they knew what they “should” be doing, but were completely overwhelmed, and often felt ashamed that they weren’t living it out.

That became the foundation of Tranquil Minds. Building step by step approaches they help folks move from feeling sick, tired and overwhelmed to living a happy, energetic life where they feel like themselves again.

My work has grown from a focus on anxiety into a broader understanding of mental health, neurodivergence, migraine, concussion recovery, and the many physical factors that influence how we think, feel, and function.

I’m especially interested in helping people connect the dots between symptoms, systems, and daily life so care feels clearer, more manageable, and more useful.

A little more about me

Outside of the clinic, I’m a mom, reader, choir nerd, enthusiastic home cook, and someone who is usually happiest sitting near a lake with really good cup of coffee.

I care a lot about making health feel doable in real life because I live in real life too. With family schedules, work, changing capacity, imperfect routines, and all the normal messiness that comes with being a person.

I also genuinely love learning. Whether I’m reading new research, working on a book or resource, or following a curiosity down a very specific rabbit hole, I’m usually trying to understand something a little better — and then figure out how to make it useful.

These days, I’m building a life and practice in British Columbia while continuing to care for patients virtually in Ontario.
