Understanding Autism Today
Why so many Autistic adults were missed and what the modern research tells us about masking, diagnosis and support
Free Live Webinar with Dr. Katie Thomson Aitken ND
Wednesday April 22nd @ 7pm EDT
Over the past few months there has been a (frankly annoying) level of public “debate” about autism; what it is, why diagnosis rates are increasing, and whether it should still be considered a spectrum.
At the same time, many adults are discovering they are autistic after years, or even decades, of misdiagnosis.
So what does the research actually say?
In this webinar, Dr. Katie Thomson Aitken ND walks through the modern understanding of autism and why our diagnostic frameworks have evolved so dramatically.
This Presentation is Made For:
• healthcare practitioners, therapists and educators who want a clearer understanding about how autism can present in adults
• parents wondering about autism in adults and recent conversations about diagnosis
• anyone interested in the evolving science of autism
What You Will Learn
• Why autism diagnoses appear to be increasing
• The role masking and camouflaging play in missed diagnosis
• Why girls and women are often diagnosed later
• How sensory differences shape autistic experience
• Why many adults were missed by earlier diagnostic models
• What clinicians and families should understand about autism today
Why Join Me?
Ten years ago, I would have said I had no Autistic patients in my practice.
Today roughly one in five of my patients are Autistic.
Some of those individuals have been in my practice this whole time. It took years before they were recognized. This sparked my curiosity. I wanted to understand how we identify autism and why so many people have historically been left out.
I want to share what I’ve learned with you.
Hi, I’m Katie, a naturopathic doctor and founder of Tranquil Minds, a practice focused on brain health and emotional well being. In my clinical work I’m often supporting individuals with mental health concerns (like anxiety, depression, PMDD,) and/or neurodevelopmental conditions (like ADHD and autism) I’m passionate about helping my patients understand themselves and find the support they need to achieve their personal goals.
Join me for a thoughtful conversation about autism research and what it means for patients, clinicians and families today.
